Sailing School on Lake Calhoun

Lake Calhoun has a terrific sailing school that trains young sailors (and at night older sailors) to race. While wandering around the lake in a sailboat is a pleasant way to pass the time, racing is what elevates sailing to a passion.
Turtles are among my favorite forms of acquatic life. This fine fellow was caught (but not kept) on the Lagoon connecting Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake in South Minneapolis during a particularly fine July day.

No sail sailing

What every sailor needs is an alternative to the wind driven boat. Mine is a kayak, so light I can put it on and off the roof of my car myself. More and more people are enjoying the inland lakes in a kayak. Though there are many varities of kayak, some designed for extreme sports enthusiasts, my own works best on windless days for thoughtful meandering from lake to lake right in Minneapolis itself.
